The 2011 Highlands-Massey Classic turned out to be not only another successful year, but also included a record number of participants. The threat of rain held off to complete both tournament rounds. The dinner and auction proved fun for all. Thanks again to all the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters that make this event possible every year.
In just five years The Highlands-Massey Classic has donated over $1,000,000 to VCU Massey Cancer Center. In fiscal year 2010, 45% of Massey’s research and operational funding came from philanthropic accumulated resources from people across the Commonwealth and beyond. George Emerson, as current chair of the legislative committee for the Massey Advisory Board, has been successful in lobbying the General Assembly to earmark $5,000,000 for Massey Cancer Center.
Massey is one of only 61 National Cancer Institute designated cancer centers, placing it in the top 5% of all cancer centers in the United States. VCU Massey Cancer Center has one of the largest offerings of clinical trials in the Commonwealth of Virginia evaluating the latest cancer treatments for adult and pediatric patients. |
